From Pastor’s Desk:
It is strange. Rather, it is mysterious. How God empowers and strengthens His people even in the midst of challenges and trials. It is not that we have a good plan. It is not that we have tangible programs that would revive our church. As a matter fact, we have more hills to climb and hurdles to jump. However, I definitely feel the uplifting spirit from the brothers and sisters. For 6 weeks as I was away from Bay Road family, I was able to take myself away from our ministerial context, and I was able to meditate and contemplate where we were. To be honest, I was afraid – afraid of not knowing what to expect when I came back. Because I left at a rather critical point, I did not know how these 6 weeks would impact our ministry. As I came back, I felt that my worries were in vain. Meg did a wonderful ministry, and the elders were surely faithful guarding the flock God has bestowed upon us. The members of this household have grown and are now ready to take the challenge of transition. As I mentioned earlier, talking about changes and transition is one thing, but being actually ready to go through them is quite different from talking. Now I feel that the members of the Bay Road family are actually ready to face the challenge and transition. I believe this sentiment is not arrogance but confidence. The mystery is we do not have concrete ground for this confidence. I have not yet created a 5 year plan of doubling our membership. Yet, I believe this confidence is real. My brothers and sisters are confident in God that we are ready to make the new turn of our ministry. Committees and ministries along with whole church would go through serious renovation and reformation. However, instead of fear, I sense more excitement now – the excitement for where God would lead us. I am not saying that we are there yet. I am not saying that we know where we are heading. But what a change of mentality and what a spiritual growth we are going through! I continue to praise the Lord in hope and faith in His steadfastness and goodness, for He loves His flock more than any of us can ever do. I hope and pray that all my Bay Road family might see and join me in this excitement. Soli Deo Gloria! (Glory to God alone!)

As a session, we are getting ready for our Triennial review from Albany Presbytery on September 28, 2008. We will share with them the changes and the progress our church has been experiencing since our last review two years ago.

We want to thank Margaret (Meg) McDowell for a job well done as an intern assistant pastor. She brought to the job her love of the Lord which was evident in her sermons. Meg appears to be growing stronger in her faith and her ability to share it with others through her preaching. May we all continue to pray for her as she returns to Princeton Theological Seminary to pursue a Masters of Theology. Let us keep Laura Mitchell in our prayers as she will be returning to Princeton Theological Seminary to begin her second year (of the three) for a Masters of Divinity. Remember to keep her family in prayer who lives locally. Elder Share Elder Share begins on Wednesday, September 10th.
Elder Share is a day care program for the elderly and meets every Wednesday from 10:30 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Participants in Elder Share are over 60 years of age, ambulatory (may use a cane or walker if independent) and able to attend on a regular basis. Elder Share offers: a nutritional noon meal, Bible study, friendship, music, games emotional support, prayer, lectures, films socialization, special trips, sharing and much more. Elder Share is self sufficient in that the participants are encouraged to contribute $4 for the meal depending on their ability: however, no eligible person will be denied service for inability to pay. Elder Share began in 1986 at Bay Road Presbyterian Church as a Mission Outreach. It moved to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd a number of years ago with the involvement of Georgie Erskine. If you or someone you know would like more information about Elder Share, please call Jacquie Clear (from the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd) at 793-5419 or Jan Kenyon (from Bay Road Presbyterian Church) at 793-7156. Volunteers: If you would like to help out, we would love to have your help in any way you can. Our volunteers do transportation, help in preparing the meals, lead Bible studies or special programs or sing. The 3-4 volunteers that we have do all of that right now. If you could only do one thing it would be helpful. All of us started by picking the participants up and dropping them off at 10:30 A.M. and picking them up at 1 P.M. Some volunteers just brought the food and dropped it off. Some from the Lutheran church just left the food in the refrigerator with instructions for us to cook it the next day. We only have 8-10 ladies who are involved now, but we could have more if we had others who could provide transportation. If you would like to help out, give Jacquie or Jan a call.

CHUCKLE CORNER
A fifth grade teacher in a Christian school asked her class to look at TV commercials and see if they could use them in some way to communicate ideas about God. Here are some of the results:
God is like Dial Soap Aren’t you glad you have Him? Don’t you wish everybody did?
God is like A Ford He’s got a better idea.
God is like Coke He’s the real thing.
God is like Hallmark Cards He cares enough to send His very best.
God is like Tide He gets the stains out that others leave behind.
God is like General Electric He brings good things to life.
