From Pastor’s Desk:

It is strange.  Rather, it is mysterious.  How God empowers and strengthens His people even in the midst of challenges and trials.  It is not that we have a good plan.  It is not that we have tangible programs that would revive our church.  As a matter fact, we have more hills to climb and hurdles to jump.  However, I definitely feel the uplifting spirit from the brothers and sisters.  For 6 weeks as I was away from Bay Road family, I was able to take myself away from our ministerial context, and I was able to meditate and contemplate where we were.  To be honest, I was afraid – afraid of not knowing what to expect when I came back.  Because I left at a rather critical point, I did not know how these 6 weeks would impact our ministry.  As I came back, I felt that my worries were in vain.  Meg did a wonderful ministry, and the elders were surely faithful guarding the flock God has bestowed upon us.  The members of this household have grown and are now ready to take the challenge of transition.  As I mentioned earlier, talking about changes and transition is one thing, but being actually ready to go through them is quite different from talking.  Now I feel that the members of the Bay Road family are actually ready to face the challenge and transition.  I believe this sentiment is not arrogance but confidence.  The mystery is we do not have concrete ground for this confidence.  I have not yet created a 5 year plan of doubling our membership.  Yet, I believe this confidence is real.  My brothers and sisters are confident in God that we are ready to make the new turn of our ministry.  Committees and ministries along with whole church would go through serious renovation and reformation.  However, instead of fear, I sense more excitement now – the excitement for where God would lead us.  I am not saying that we are there yet.  I am not saying that we know where we are heading.  But what a change of mentality and what a spiritual growth we are going through!  I continue to praise the Lord in hope and faith in His steadfastness and goodness, for He loves His flock more than any of us can ever do.  I hope and pray that all my Bay Road family might see and join me in this excitement.

Soli Deo Gloria!  (Glory to God alone!)

September’s Session News

Session News

The session’s last meeting was June 3, 2008.  We generally decided to recess for the summer with the understanding we are able to hold a meeting if necessary.  We will reconvene on September 2, 2008.

We hope you have enjoyed the summer months and are ready to embrace what the Lord has planned for each one of us.  As a session, we are getting ready for our Triennial review from Albany Presbytery on September 28, 2008. We will share with them the changes and the progress our church has been experiencing since our last review two years ago.

We want to thank Margaret (Meg) McDowell for a job well done as an intern assistant pastor. She brought to the job her love of the Lord which was evident in her sermons. Meg appears to be growing stronger in her faith and her ability to share it with others through her preaching. May we all continue to pray for her as she returns to Princeton Theological Seminary to pursue a Masters of Theology.

Let us keep Laura Mitchell in our prayers as she will be returning to Princeton Theological Seminary to begin her second year (of the three) for a Masters of Divinity. Remember to keep her family in prayer who lives locally.

Let us keep Laura Mitchell in our prayers as she will be returning to Princeton Theological Seminary to begin her second year (of the three) for a Masters of Divinity. Remember to keep her family in prayer who lives locally.

May we all keep schools, colleges, the students, the teachers, professors, administrators, the staff( including  related support services, teacher aids & assistants, bus drivers, custodians, clerical, cafeteria) and anyone who will be beginning a new year with students  in September in our prayers. They are the future.

The following is an e-mail sent out  from Pastor Sung Hee Lee to all of us who have e-mail. We have decided to publish this correspondence for those who may have missed the e-mail or do not have access to e-mails.

Dear Church family,

I had the privilege of speaking with Tim extensively last Sunday.  I truly
appreciated Tim's genuine heart and honesty, not to mention his
straightforwardness of coming to speak with me.  Because of the
inopportune timing of his decision, I believe, Tim wrote the below e-mail to clarify
his heart and decision without causing unnecessary gossip or second guessing.
What a compassionate and truthful heart he has for the body of Christ!
Tim assured me how he has been blessed by the Bay Road family, and he extends
genuine blessings to all of us.  I too assured him that he has been a
blessing to me and my ministry and how difficult it is for me to say
 farewell to my beloved brother.

Even when I know it is the right time, as a pastor, it is very hard and
heartbreaking to see one of my family leave.  But trusting in God's time
and God's steadfastness, I can send my brother Tim with all my blessings from
a genuine heart.  I hope and pray that everyone will join me and extend our
blessings as Tim spreads his wings to soar into a new venture of ministry
where God leads him.  Also, I hope and pray that God will continue to lead
us into a new venture of ministry here at Bay Road Church.

May the blessings and peace of the Lord be with you all.

 -Sung-

A message from Tim Engwer:

 To My Bay Road Family,

I have some difficult news to share with you and I want to make sure that

all honesty that this decision has absolutely nothing to do with any
dissatisfaction on my part with Bay Road Church or my family and friends
there.  In fact, I can say that without a doubt I have been richly blessed
to be a part of you for more than 20 years.  I am leaving simply because I

have come into a new season socially and spiritually and it is now time
for me to move on and see what's out there beyond Bay Road.  I do not have any
particular church that I will be going to but will be spreading my wings
and letting the Lord lead me where He will.  Until I find another home church
I will continue to be a non-active member and will be back to visit on
occasion.  I am excited for our church and what the Lord has in store.  I
feel a new season is coming for Bay Road as well as you vision together
concerning the future and I know that God will lead you into that future
and all its glory.  I believe there will be new wine skins and new wine poured
out.  People will be raised up to do ministry and the mission of Bay Road
will continue.  There is a time and a season for everything.  The season
for Bay Road is that of greater glory and the season for me is that of change
and expansion of ministry.  When I finally leave I will miss all of you
and I know that whatever vacuum I leave will be filled by the Lord as He
raises up new people and new ways of doing ministry.  Be encouraged!  God has
great things in store as you continually open yourselves to new possibilities
especially as it concerns what God can do through you as you yield
yourselves to Him.  "[We] can do all things through Him who gives us
strength!"  God used fisherman to turn the world upside down and He will
continue to use Bay Road to do mighty things as well!

In His Love,

Tim Engwer

Elder Share

Elder Share begins on Wednesday, September 10th.

Elder Share is a day care program for the elderly and meets every Wednesday from 10:30 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.    Participants in Elder Share are over 60 years  of age, ambulatory (may use a cane or walker if independent) and able to attend on a regular basis.  Elder Share offers: a nutritional noon meal, Bible study, friendship, music, games emotional support, prayer, lectures, films socialization, special trips, sharing and much more.  Elder Share is self sufficient in that the participants are encouraged to contribute $4 for the meal depending on their ability: however, no eligible person will be denied service for inability to pay.

Elder Share began in 1986 at Bay Road Presbyterian Church as a Mission Outreach.  It moved to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd a number of years ago with the involvement of Georgie Erskine.  If you or someone you know would like more information about Elder Share, please call Jacquie Clear (from the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd) at 793-5419 or Jan Kenyon (from Bay Road Presbyterian Church) at 793-7156.

Volunteers:  If you would like to help out, we would love to have your help in any way you can.  Our volunteers do transportation, help in preparing the meals, lead Bible studies or special programs or sing. The 3-4 volunteers that we have do all of that right now.

If you could only do one thing it would be helpful.  All of us started by picking the participants up and dropping them off at 10:30 A.M. and picking them up at 1 P.M.  Some volunteers just brought the food and dropped it off.  Some from the Lutheran church just left the food in the refrigerator with instructions for us to cook it the next day.  We only have 8-10 ladies who are involved now, but we could have more if we had others who could provide transportation.  If you would like to help out, give Jacquie or Jan a call.
