From Pastor’s Desk….

So far this year, I feel busy.  I feel busy partly because Lent season came upon us very quickly after

the Advent season.  Also, I feel busy because many things have been happening to me personally and

pastorally.  We bid farewell to Bobbi, our beloved sister at the end of the Advent season, and baby Sammy

has arrived during the Lenten season.  We had a successful annual congregational meeting and installed new

officers.  Now as we are going through the spiritual season of Lent, we are ready to send our mission team

once again this year to aid our suffering brothers and sisters in the southern states.  Moreover, I foresee emerging

possibilities of various ministries for us as Christ’s body and God’s household.  Of course, I have to admit that

there are areas where we can improve and grow, and we might face challenges and growing pains.  However, I

am not discouraged at all.  I am rather hopeful and excited as to how God would lead us and raise us to the full

maturity of our Lord Jesus.  Personally, I am learning more about God’s grace and love as being the father of

our new baby.  The Lent Bible study has been meaningful to me personally as I meditate on the word of God

in the event of Lord’s crucifixion.  Also, I am excited to go down to Louisiana with the mission team this year

for the first time, and I am anxious to have all of our “snow bird” families back as the long winter is almost over.

Although we have snow on our backyard and driveways, spring is certainly near us.  Soon new leaves will paint

our world green.  As I write this article, I am definitely ready for the arrival of greens.  And as much as I wait for

the season of spring, I envision and pray for the new and refreshing season of growing for our spiritual lives.

News of the Session

The Sacrament of Holy Communion was observed on January 6, 2008 and on February 3, 2008.

Pastor Sung Lee and Elder Debbie Collin served communion to Frankie Waite, Ruth Smith and

Bob Harris in their places of residence.

Dennis Russell had sent Pastor Sung Hee Lee an e-mail suggesting we the session openly discuss

the removal of Dick Bird’s picture (which was taken down from September to December and then put back up).

It was pointed out that we should remember all the past pastors of Bay Road Presbyterian Church, not just

one. So after much discussion, a motion was made by Carol Bayle and seconded by Debbie Collin, that NO

pictures of any pastors which have served Bay Road Presbyterian Church be hung in the church; and in

replacement a plague  will be made with the names and dates of ministry of all past pastors.

The picture of Reverend Richard Bird will be included in our historical documents as of the time of this newsletter.

Janet Murphy was welcomed to the session. She was given a new Book of Order as were all the session members.

The session approved of  Wendy Waite’s request to transfer to Northway Church Fellowship. Wendy and

her son Jonathan will always have a place in our hearts and we will miss them. Wendy served as a Sunday

School teacher and is the daughter  of Frankie Waite and granddaughter of Betty Dayton.

Trustee’s Newsletter

February 2008

Besides working to keep the driveway and sidewalks clear the Trustees have been prioritizing our

lists of maintenance and upgrades that need to be done this summer.

Ed Goddard our Trustee Emeritus is working with us to reduce our energy usage by changing some

of the outside and inside lighting to compac fluorescence bulbs. This will be on a trial basis to see if

they are acceptable. In conjunction with this we will be upgrading the lighting for the outside signs this spring.

If anyone is interested in us considering an improvement or repair there are forms in the office on top of the

mail boxes. One is titled REPAIR REQUEST and one is titled PROJECT DESCRIPTION. These should be

filled out and put in the Trustees mail box. If you have questions about the forms ask a Trustee. This will

help us get all the information needed for our consideration of each request. As always a verbal request to

a Trustee can be used for an immediate repair.

Respectfully Submitted,

Chip Collin

One Great Hour of Sharing

The One Great Hour of Sharing began in 1949 when Christian leaders, seeing the devastation that

WWII had left in much of the world, recognized both a responsibility to our sisters and brothers and

an opportunity to witness to a loving God. An hour long nationwide radio broadcast was broadcast and

invited people to give through their church the next morning.  The response was overwhelming!  It was

held again the next year and has been held ever since.  The services of OGHS has grown to include

emergency relief, rebuilding after disasters of wars, earthquakes, floods and human suffering.  It also

addresses the root causes of suffering so solutions can be found and addressed.

Sunday, February 17th, began our  “One Great Hour of Sharing.” The children were able to take a

“fish” bank home. They have been collecting money to fill up their banks.  Please have your children

return them to church on March 9th.  There will be envelopes for adults to “Share”  on March 9th.

Please join in this tradition of “giving” that truly changes lives.

How Deep the Father’s Love for Me

By Stuart Townend

How deep the Father’s love for us,

How vast beyond all measure,

That He should give His only son,

To make a wretch His treasure.

How great the pain of searing loss;

The Father turns His face away,

As wounds which mar the Chosen One

Bring many sons to glory.

Behold the Man upon a cross,

My sin upon His shoulders;

Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice

Call out among the scoffers.

It was my sin that held Him there

Until it was accomplished;

His dying breath has brought me life:

I know that it is finished.

I will not boast in anything,

No gifts, no power, no wisdom;

But I will boast in Jesus Christ,

His death and resurrection.

Why should I gain from His reward?

I cannot give an answer,

But this I know with all my heart:

His wounds have paid my ransom.

CHUCKLE CORNER

    Acting Up In Church

One Sunday in a Midwest City, a young child was "acting up" during the morning worship hour.
The parents did their best to maintain some sense of order in the pew but were losing the battle.

Finally, the father picked the little fellow up and walked sternly up the aisle on his way out.

Just before reaching the safety of the foyer, the little one called loudly to the congregation,

“Pray for me!  Pray for me!”
