***Attention Bay Road Family***

"Dear church family, by the decision of the session, starting from July, we will print the hard copy paper version of the newsletter only upon request.  The newsletters along with the past issues will be posted on our church website www.bayroadchurch.com for your convenience, and you will  receive a reminder e-mail whenever a new version is updated.  However, if you would like to pick up (or continue to receive via mail) the printed copy of the church newsletter, please make your request to our church secretary, Heather McCane, by June 29, 2008.  We will gladly print the hard copy for you.  However, if we do not hear from you, we would assume that you'd like to read the newsletter on our website rather than the paper version.  Thank you very much."

From Pastor’s desk:

As the season of summer comes near, I can sense that the ministry at Bay Road Church is getting more active.  This is so, because we went through a significant time of transition and we are ready to move on to the vision of Christ for us as His body.  Moreover, we have our brothers and sisters back up here from the southern states.  Personally, I am refreshed and renewed from my visit to my root country –  Korea.  It was personally wonderful to introduce new members of my family – Jojo and Sammy – to my relatives, not to mention how many of my uncles and aunts held them and lifted up the prayers of blessings.  Although the flight was long and arduous, the trip was surely worth it.  Spiritually, I am ready to pursue the vision of renewal for Bay Road Church and our areas.  The change in the sanctuary is complimented by many, and I am very happy about the change.  I sincerely believe that we as the body of Christ are ready to move to the new vision that God has prepared for us.  I am testing, prayerfully, different possibilities as to how God would bring such renewal and revival.  I am not claiming that I know the ways.  Neither am I insisting “this is the way.”  Instead, I am humbly paying attention to what God speaks and how God leads us.  Because my vocation is rather verbose, it is very easy for me to fall into the trap of babbling without the in depth understanding.  As I introduce (and will introduce) a couple of new ministries to my family of Bay Road, such as Crossways International, I am praying diligently that God would bring revival and renewal.  However, deep in my heart, I am silent, trying to listen what God has to say to me.  Yes, I have burning passion for certain areas of ministry.  And yes, some areas of ministry are more familiar and comfortable to me.  However, even from a short ministerial experience that I acquired, I have learned that what I like and what I desire do not always match what God has planned for us.  Following what God has planned is sometimes frustrating for us.  However, we always discover retrospectively that following the path of God is the shortcut.  Although we will inevitably continue experiencing challenges and changes in the path of God’s leading, I recall all the wonderful things and wonders that God has brought to us through His people here at Bay Road Church.  The more I gain in experience in the congregational ministry, the more I trust in the Lord of His goodness.  The more I experience God’s steadfastness of our Father, the more I respect His chosen people and their leaders.  Praise be to God!

June’s Session News

The Sacrament of Holy Communion was observed on May 4, 2008. Elders   Jan Kenyon and Chris Henneke brought communion to Bert Seeholzer at Glens Falls Hospital.  Ruth and Bruce Smith and their relatives at the Stanton and Frankie Waite  as well.  Pauline Sexton received it at  Eden Park and Pauline’s friend who was visiting. Esther Titus received it in her home. It was a busy and productive day for our Elders visiting those  not able to  be with us at church.

May we all take note of those not at church and  try to give them a call or a visit. It is so hard to be away from the family of God. Let  us join in extending our love and time to those in need.

The session and the Finance Committee met on April 29, 2008. The purpose of the meeting was for Finance Committee to present their action items to reduce church’s spending to the session. The Trustees were given charge to enact many of the changes as you can read in the Trustee’s report.

Here are a few of the other cost saving changes you will be experiencing:

We are canceling our contract with Crystal Rock coffee vending and Ellen Pezzi will be purchasing coffee from  Free Exchange ( mission project) and using our own coffee makers to make coffee.

The temperature in the sanctuary has been lowered from 60 degrees to 50 degrees.

It was decided to eliminate the Nursery Care service.  Some people, especially new attendees, may not realize that the side room was always designed for a meeting / crying room is available to go into with their infant or  toddler and can still hear the service. Toys will be moved in to help accommodate those with younger children. Pastor Sung Hee Lee has said many times that he does not mind crying babies or fussy toddlers; they don’t distract him.

The session will be looking into more ways to  reduce the church’s spending.

The following is taken from the minutes  of  April 22, 2003:

On April 13, 2003, Marcia Etu presented the congregation with the financial packages needed to bring

a ½ ¾ or full time permanent pastor to BRPC. Following discussion, an informal written poll was taken

and 94% indicated the desire to bring a full time pastor, with 88% stating they are willing and able to

increase their giving to meet the financial obligation. An increase of approximately $520 per week will

be needed to meet the minimum terms of call for a full time pastor.

After checking with John Meinrenken, our Treasurer, the current figure  needed per week is more like $193.00  per week to make our

budget after the reducing expenses.

Reminder: Greg McDowell is the liaison for the session regarding the  changes to  the sanctuary. All comments and

considerations can be made to Greg .

Trustee’s Newsletter

June 2008

At the request of the Session and with the assistance of the Treasurer, several tasks, as cost saving measures, have been completed, beginning with moving the Church fax machine from the dedicated fax line to the main Church phone line to be run manually by the Secretary. The dedicated fax phone line has been disconnected. The Handicap van has been taken off the road and stored in the barn waiting to be sold. The large dumpster and been changed to a smaller container for weekly Wednesday pick ups. We will start a recycling program for corrugated cardboard. The field across Bay Road will not be mowed on a regular basis, if necessary we will have it brush cut so it won’t become overgrown. We will be asking for assistance from congregation members to help mow the lawn around the church this summer.

Our annual spring outside cleanup was organized by Trustee Rodger Henneke and competed. Thank you to all who helped Rodger.

The Chancel renovation was done and ready for Worship on Sunday May 18th. Thanks goes to Andy Holding who organized and guided the project with Rodger Henneke overseeing the painting and all the helpers who worked with them.

The Trustee’s will be researching the repair or replacement of the lawn sprinkler system for this summer. A special gift was given to us last fall for this purpose. We can then look at reseeding some areas of the lawn.

At the request of the kitchen taskforce and the Men’s breakfast group we will be purchasing new gas stoves to replace the electric units that don’t work properly. Money was donated in the past for the kitchen upgrades so we will be using that plus some of the building fund to pay for them.

Respectfully Submitted

Chip Collin

Chairman, Trustee

Elder Share

Elder Share is a day care program for the elderly and meets every Wednesday from 10:30 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.    Participants in Elder Share are over 60 years  of age, ambulatory (may use a cane or walker if independent)and able to attend on a regular basis.  Elder Share offers: a nutritional noon meal, Bible study, friendship, music, games emotional support, prayer, lectures, films socialization, special trips, sharing and much more.  Elder Share is self sufficient in that the participants are encouraged to contribute $4 for the meal depending on their ability: however, no eligible person will be denied service for inability to pay.

Elder Share began in 1986 at Bay Road Presbyterian Church as a Mission Outreach.  It moved to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd a number of years ago with the involvement of Georgie Erskine.  If you or someone you know would like more information about Elder Share, please call Jacquie Clear (from the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd) at 793-5419 or Jan Kenyon (from Bay Road Presbyterian Church) at 793-7156.

Volunteers:  If you would like to help out, we would love to have your help in any way you can.  Our volunteers do transportation, help in preparing the meals, lead Bible studies or special programs or sing. The 3-4 volunteers that we have do all of that right now.

If you could only do one thing it would be helpful.  All of us started by picking the participants up and dropping them off at 10:30 A.M. and picking them up at 1 P.M.  Some volunteers just brought the food and dropped it off.  Some from the Lutheran church just left the food in the refrigerator with instructions for us to cook it the next day.  We only have 8-10 ladies who are involved now, but we could have more if we had others who could provide transportation.  If you would like to help out, give Jacquie or Jan a call.

Elder Share will have it’s last meeting of the year with lunch a the Docksider Restaurant on Glen Lake.  We will meet again in September at 10:30 am on Wednesdays at the Church of the Good Shepard.

CHUCKLE CORNER

Thanks for the Soda, Pop!
Before I took the old family car to college, my father loaded the trunk with soft-drink bottles filled with oil, coolant and transmission fluid. Sure enough, my car overheated. Scolding myself for not listening to my father's instructions, I looked at the engine and saw how well he knew me. The oil cap was labeled Dr Pepper, the transmission stick, Coke, and the empty coolant container, Diet Pepsi. I finished the trip safely.

Pop Vs. Pup
While flying from Denver to Kansas City, Kansas, my mother was sitting across the aisle from a woman and her eight-year-old son. Mom couldn't help laughing as they neared their destination and she heard the mother say to the boy, "Now remember -- run to Dad first, then the dog."

Paternal Payback
On the day I received my learner's permit, my father agreed to take me out for a driving lesson. With a big grin, he hopped in behind the driver's seat. "Why aren't you sitting up front on the passenger's side?" I asked.
"Kirsten, I've been waiting for this ever since you were a little girl," Dad replied. "Now it's my turn to sit back here and kick the seat."

No. 1 on Our List

My father was completely lost in the kitchen and never ate unless someone prepared a meal for him. When Mother was ill, however, he volunteered to go to the supermarket for her. She sent him off with a carefully numbered list of seven items.
Dad returned shortly, very proud of himself, and proceeded to unpack the grocery bags. He had one bag of sugar, two dozen eggs, three hams, four boxes of detergent, five boxes of crackers, six eggplants, and seven green peppers.
